At just 16 years old, Rae directed her first documentary short film, focusing on the 1999 NATO bombings and the death of former Yugoslavian dictator Slobodan Milošević. This early experience set the tone for her raw, unfiltered approach to storytelling, which would become a hallmark of her documentary work.
